The European Cancer Patient Coalition (ECPC) promotes the online conference ”14 Million Reasons to Discuss Life After Cancer: Implementing the Right to Be Forgotten Across Europe”’ this Friday, 19th February, starting at 9:30am (Lisbon time), with the intervention of the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor.
The conference aims to discuss the implementation of the “Right to be Forgotton” foreseen for cancer survivors who, as a result of stigmatization and social discrimination, face economic difficulties and difficulties in contracting bank loans due to mandatory life insurance of very high amounts established for patients with cancer or former cancer patients.
The conference aims to promote the debate between several specialists in the field of cancer and public health policies with a view to creating a European strategy for the implementation of the “Right to be Forgotton”, integrating it in line with the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan presented at the beginning of this month by the European Commission. The Cancer Plan sets out a new EU approach to cancer prevention, treatment and care. It will tackle the entire disease pathway, from prevention to quality of life of cancer patients and survivors. It will be implemented using the whole range of Commission funding instruments, with a total of €4 billion being earmarked for actions addressing cancer, including from the EU4Health programme, Horizon Europe and the Digital Europe programmes.
ECPC is the largest European cancer patients’ association of cancer patients, with over 400 members from all EU Member States, and many other European and non-European countries.
