The first Twinning call under Horizon Europe closed on the 18th of January. This was the most ambitious Twinning call to date and it generated significant interest.

The call Twinning (HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ACCESS-03) received 391 proposals for a total requested contribution of over EUR 555 million from the EU.

The total available budget for this call is EUR 149 million and, according to the Work Programme100 projects are expected to be funded with an estimated EU contribution of EUR 0.80-1.50 million per project.

Twinning aims to foster networking activities between research institutions from Widening countries and first-rate counterparts from EU Member States or Associated Countries. Through Twinning, the selected Widening research institution will collaborate with at least two research institutions from two different EU Member States or Associated Countries.

The evaluation of the proposals will start in the coming days with the support of external independent evaluators drawn from the European Commission’s database of experts.

The European Research Executive Agency will communicate results to applicants by mid-May 2022. The grant agreement for successful proposals will be signed by the end of August.
