PERIN – National strategy to promote national participation in European Union funding programmes 2021-2027 – Research & Innovation, Erasmus +, Space and Digital

Following the public consultation that was conducted between 2 November-31 December 2020, the final document of the Portuguese Strategy to promote national participation in the EU’s funding programs 2021-2027 on Research & Innovation, Erasmus +, Space and Digital was published today.

The National Strategy aims to duplicate the Portuguese participation in the EU Programmes, to attract around two billion euros of EU funding in the areas of Research and Innovation, as well as tripling the number of students on mobility in Higher Education, compared to 2014-2020.

The Strategy was developed by PERIN institutional partners, the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I. P. (FCT),  Agência Nacional de Inovação (ANI), S.A., Agência Espacial Portuguesa (Portugal Space), Agência de Investigação Clínica e Inovação Biomédica (AICIB), Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior (DGES) and the  Agência Nacional Erasmus+ Educação e Formação, and enriched with the public contributions received until 31st December.

The increased participation of the national science, technology and innovation system in EU funding programs dedicated to R&D, Space, Digital and Higher Education, requires the existence of structured national channels that allow an accurate and timely dissemination of information. To that effect, the creation and correct operation of the Network of Centers for the Promotion of Research and Innovation – RNPII – within the scope of European Programs, in scientific institutions, in higher education and in companies, plays a fundamental role, within PERIN. The multiplication of these promotion centers is indispensable to support the internationalization of research and innovation and, therefore, to enhance Portuguese participation in the European funding programmes referred to above. The network of Offices that implement the ERASMUS + Programme in higher education institutions (“Erasmus + Offices”) play also an important role to strengthening PERIN strategy, to create synergies and complementarity.

The structure of experts and delegates to the ERASMUS +, Space, Digital Europe Connecting Europe Facility 2 – Digital are hereHorizon Europe NCPs have already been nominated.

PERIN is are very grateful to everyone who contributed to the public consultation.

The PERIN – National strategy to promote national participation in European Union funding programmes 2021-2027 – Research & Innovation, Erasmus +, Space and Digital  will be revisited and updated on an annual basis.
